Today is the first day of the first winter month according to the lunar calendar and the 861st anniversary of the birth of the Great Chinggis Khaan, and the Day of National Pride of the Mongols.
According to the Decree of the President of Mongolia No. 4 dated January 9, 2012, the birthday of the Great Chinggis Khaan was set on the first day of the first winter month according to the lunar calendar basing on the corresponding conclusion of the working group and the proposal of the Academy of Sciences of Mongolia and it was decided to celebrate this date annually as a Day of National Pride of the Mongols. Today we are celebrating this holiday for the 12th year.
The Washington Post newspaper, USA, declared the Great Chinggis Khaan as the man of the millennium for laying the foundations for the creation of a great transcontinental empire and implementing fundamental reforms in international relations, trade, monetary and road transport spheres, which provided an important impetus to the development of the world. And also in 2005 the UN General Assembly adopted a special resolution on the worldwide celebration of the 800th anniversary of the creation of the Great Mongol Empire.
