The President of Mongolia Khurelsukh Khentii of Ukhnaa is working in the province. On this occasion, I visited the vegetable fields and irrigation system base camp of Murun Sum, Khentii Province, and met with the farmers.
The President of Mongolia said that the draft resolution of the National Assembly on some measures to be taken to ensure food supply and safety within the framework of the goal of fully meeting the needs of 19 major food products in the next five years and intensively developing livestock and agriculture is being discussed at the session. He also emphasized that the government will provide all possible support and assistance in order to fully provide food from within.
The people of Murunsum have been cultivating potatoes and vegetables on a small scale since 1944, relying on the Murun River, on the east side of Erdene Mountain.
155 gardeners from 102 families in Sum, three enterprises grow animal feed, rapeseed, wheat, potatoes, vegetables, and two citizens grow sea buckthorn.
He has been engaged in greenhouse farming since 2018 and has 16 greenhouses with an area of 594 square meters. With the support of an international organization, a 128 m2 three-season greenhouse was built in 2019 and started to be used this year.
Although there is a cellar with a capacity of 100 tons, the growers said that there is a need for further expansion and a permanent point for buying and selling vegetables in the provincial center. He also introduced that the circulation area can be expanded to 200 hectares by renovating the irrigation system of 60 hectares and talked about the need for support.
The Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry handed over 90 horsepower tractors, plows, plows and trailers to Suma farmers. Minister of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry Z. Mendsaikhan said that in the future, the irrigation system of Murun Sum vegetable fields will be completely renovated.
In 2021, 678 tons of potatoes and 548 tons of vegetables were harvested in Murun sum of Khentii province. In 2010 and 2014, he was selected as the National Champion Farmer’s Arrow, and in 2017 and 2020, he was selected as the Farmer’s Arrow.
