The President of Mongolia, Ukhnaagi Khurelsukh, received UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, who is on an official visit to Mongolia.
President Ukhnaagi Khurelsukh thanked the United Nations for its valuable contribution to the social and economic development of Mongolia.
He pointed out that Mongolia is effectively cooperating with the organization in the areas of strengthening democracy and good governance, improving the law and legal environment, ensuring human rights, reducing poverty, protecting the health of mothers and children, protecting the environment, and promoting sustainable development.
This year marks the 30th anniversary of Mongolia’s declaration of its territory as a nuclear-weapon-free zone and the 20th anniversary of its participation in UN peacekeeping operations. It was noted that the international conference “Participation of female military personnel in UN peacekeeping operations” was successfully organized.
Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed his pleasure in visiting Mongolia, which is a symbol of peace at a time when peace and tranquility are becoming increasingly rare in the world.
Mongolia’s contribution to efforts to strengthen international peace and security, including nuclear disarmament, non-proliferation, and stability on the Korean Peninsula, was highly appreciated.
In order to contribute to the fight against desertification, Mongolia praised the “Billion Trees” initiative and started a national movement, and the United Nations announced that it will continue to support the implementation of social, economic and sustainable development goals.
